I was riding on the city bus one day in Austin, TX, when a college kid came up to me and handed me this water color painting of a star. He was handing out his paintings to random people. I was still homeless back then and I told him I would keep it and that it would be the first picture on the wall of my new place, whenever I got one, and just a few short months later, I finally got an apartment, and I had managed to keep the painting safe in my bag, and it was the first picture on my wall. Later I went and bought a frame for it, and now I keep it on my desk as a positive reminder of the past and the future, difficulties, failures, and successes, and all points in between.
